Happy Birthday Emma!

I can finally post this project, since the gift has been given! My friend's little girl celebrated her first birthday last week, so I decided to make her a canvas as part of my gift. She is one of the most photogenic and happiest babies I have ever met, so it seemed appropriate to incorporate a frame so that her parents can add pictures of her.

Isn't she a cutie?! (**I did not take the baby photo**)

And here is the card I made for her...

Another Project Finished

I couldn't sleep at all last night (I think it was because I was wired after teaching a successful Zumba class...), so I finished a project that I have been working on instead. The cards are for the same photographer friend that I made thank you cards for a couple months ago- she has ordered custom USB drives, and needed cards to say that clients would receive a discount if they brought the USBs back for their next session. Of course, between her commissioning me to make the cards and me actually getting started, my printer decided to stop working, so I had to replace it before I could get anything done... Here are the finished cards (there are 50 altogether!).

More May Babies!

This month is a busy one for birthdays, so I have been hard at work making cards for people. The first was for my cousin, who just happened to be out here visiting from Saskatchewan for both of our birthdays...

The text in the background is recycled packaging that I saved, and I made the flower out of coffee filters (I dyed and stamped them). I think it's fun to come up with creative ways to re-use different materials on my cards...

The second birthday card was made for my friend's mom, who has a milestone birthday coming up later this week. She likes blue and ladybugs, so this is what I came up with...

This card went through many transformations while I was trying to decide on background paper, but in the end I decided that I liked the simple look best...

The last birthday card is not yet made, but it will be for my mom's friend's third grandbaby (a little girl, who was born on my birthday). We are just waiting to hear what her name is, then I will be making a card and a wall-art picture for her. I will post when they are done!

Happy Mother's Day!

I realize it's a day late, but Happy Mother's Day! Here are the cards I made for my mom and grandma...

In other news, this weekend was also my birthday, and I was given a pretty cool gift- my very own website! I have no idea how to design a website, but I will find some time soon to muddle through (probably with much swearing!) and hopefully come up with something interesting... Stay tuned!

A Little Bit Of Everything

It's been a while since my last post, and I have finished a few more projects... I had great intentions of posting each project as I finished it, but life got in the way!

The first was another 'Thank You' card for Administrative Professionals Day. It was for the same company as the other 4 cards.

The next project was to make more of the wall art cards I made for my friend's mom. She decided she wanted to give them as gifts when she got home...

My 3rd project was a birthday card for a friend who hates his birthday. I had originally thought it was going to be a very different card than it ended up being (colour and style-wise)... It's not uncommon for that to happen though! :)

My 4th project was another wall canvas for my mom's friend's grandchild (couldn't give one to one of them, and not give one to the others! Grandbaby #3 is due any time now, so there will be another project soon...).

You can sort of see how the owl is dimensional in the top picture... I upcycled some styrofoam packaging that I had to make it stand out from the canvas.

The final project was a picture frame for baby Hunter, to go with his wall canvas. I didn't have a copy of the picture that will go in it (a close-up of him sleeping), so you have to use your imagination for what it will look like...

I also ordered a custom stamp for the back of my cards etc., and am really excited to get to use it! I was surprised how reasonably priced it ended up being, and the store is about a minute from a skytrain station, so it was easy to pick up.

I have lots of projects in the works for the next little while (a Mother's Day card, 4 birthday cards, another wall canvas, and a whole bunch of wedding invitations), so stay tuned! :)

With Sympathy...

I found out over the weekend that a family friend had passed away, so I made this card to send to his family. He was an interesting man who always had stories to tell, and he will be missed greatly...

An Interesting Request...

Yesterday I got an interesting card request from one of my mom's co-workers... a hamburger birthday card! Apparently the birthday girl is fond of burgers, so it seemed appropriate to give her one for her birthday. :)

Thank You Cards For Administrative Professionals Day

I was asked to make some Thank You cards for Administrative Professionals Day, which is on April 24th this year. Hopefully the ladies will like them...

Happy Birthday!

Yesterday was my cousin's birthday, so I decided to maker her a card. Of course, being my organized self, I left it until the last minute and ended up with only about 10 minutes for it to come together... :)  It's not my fanciest card, but I like how it turned out.

Get Well Soon!

My latest project was a card for my mom to give to one of the teachers she works with. The poor lady shattered her wrist, so her kindergarten class thought it would be nice to make her 'Get Well' cards. She loves ladybugs, so this is what I came up with...

I love the googly eyes on the ladybugs, especially when they are all facing different directions! :)

Another Project Finished

For the past few days I've been working on a wall art project, and it is now finished! A friend's mom liked the look of my cards, and asked if I would be able to modify some and turn them into art for the walls of her new apartment in India. She was able to look through my papers and crafting supplies to get ideas for what she wanted, then I went to work creating. The cards that inspired her were these:

It took a few tries to get things exactly how she wanted them...

First edition:

Not quite right... Let's try again:

Almost got it... Here are the final products:

It was fun using my cards as models, then customizing them to suit someone else's taste. It was also fun getting to show other people just how much work and thought goes into planning and then making a papercraft project!

A new medium...

I decided to experiment with a new medium yesterday- artist canvases! I've never used canvases before, but it seemed like it might be fun to make some mixed media pieces to go on the wall. As it turns out, my mom needed a baby present for a friend, so that's the direction my experimentation took... I am pretty happy with the way it turned out! All that's left is a quick sealer coat, then it's ready to go. What do you think?

UPDATE: Here is a picture of the final product. I decided that I wanted the edges to be finished, so I added some ribbon and a coat of sealant...

Done!

Well, I finished my first 'big' order- 25 thank-you cards! It was a pretty different process, figuring out how to incorporate a logo into the design and making so many of the same card, but it was a good challenge! Of course, once I had decided on my design and went to go buy the needed supplies, I couldn't find what I was looking for ANYWHERE! Isn't that always the way, lol?! Eventually, after looking in 5 stores, I was successful, and able to get started. I love the way they turned out- simple, but with just enough sparkle to make them elegant and pretty. Parts of the process were rather tedious (like hand-edging all of the ribbon pieces!), but it was totally worth it to get the end result! Now on to my next project- custom wall art to be taken home to India...
